Recently spoke with a group of Vegan Outreach supporters:
Anyone who’s read Jack’s History of Vegan Outreach knows that when he and I met, we adopted the “do something do anything” approach. If something was in the news, we would protest it. If a high-profile case of abuse made us angry, we would write letters. Even when I met Anne, my main goal was to get more people to protests.
But the three of us eventually realized that since we obviously can’t do everything, we had better make sure our limited time and money helps as many animals as possible – even if the animals aren’t high profile.
It simply comes down to this: if we want a vegan world, we have to convince people to stop eating animals. There’s no way around this. There are no shortcuts.
For 20 years, we have expanded and refined our work, updated our information, and optimized our procedures. The three of us prompt each other to stay focused on our singular goal: to help as many people as possible take the first step to help animals … and then the next step, and then the next step.
But we don’t simply want more vegetarians and vegans. We want more effective advocates out there, accelerating the spread of compassion.
Of course, I know we see heart-breaking news all the time. But because of your commitment to Vegan Outreach, we are creating real, lasting change every day! I am truly honored to be a part of this amazing work with you. Together, we will make the next 20 years even more amazing!
